  1. Tempted

"Tempted" was the second single released from Squeeze's fourth album, East Side Story. Over the years it has become one of Squeeze's most well-known songs, despite failing to crack the Top 40 in any country it was released in; Stewart Mason of AllMusic remarked, "Although its increasing ubiquity on '80s hits radio and on television would suggest otherwise, Squeeze's "Tempted" was not actually a hit single." The song also became ingrained in public consciousness due to its use in commercials by Burger King and Heineken, and the video games Grand Theft Auto: Vice City and Rock Band. To this day, "Tempted" still gets moderate airplay from adult alternative-formatted radio stations. Unlike other Squeeze songs, which are usually sung by guitarist/songwriter Glenn Tilbrook or less often guitarist/lyricist Chris Difford, the song's lead vocal is sung by keyboardist Paul Carrack, though Tilbrook and producer Elvis Costello also trade a few lines in the second verse. The song was written by Squeeze members Difford and Tilbrook.

There have been times when I have been tempted to break my Hippocratic oath, to put my patient first, because although I could save their life, they didn't have the ability to reimburse whoever had to pay for it. And what happens then is that the system goes bankrupt. You can't afford those services anymore. We can't have people who have given their life to healthcare being pulled in two directions because one party says you can't help that person. They're not in the system.

  2. Asha Salum:

Some women are easily tempted to offer sexual corruption to officials so their names are considered for nomination, how many men you will need to sleep with to win a parliamentary or councillorship seat? I think now is the time to say enough is enough to.

  3. Isadora Duncan:

Virtuous people are simply those who have not been tempted sufficiently, because they live in a vegetative state, or because their purposes are so concentrated in one direction that they have not had the leisure to glance around them.

  5. Jimmy Carter:

We live in a time of transition, an uneasy era which is likely to endure for the rest of this century. During the period we may be tempted to abandon some of the time-honored principles and commitments which have been proven during the difficult times of past generations. We must never yield to this temptation. Our American values are not luxuries, but necessities - not the salt in our bread, but the bread itself.
