The flower of the teasel hath no proper calyx, but leaves representing the perianthium encompassing the bottom of the head: the little flowers which are produced singly from between the scales, are collected into an head somewhat like a bee-hive; these are succeeded by longish four-cornered seeds: the species are three: one is called carduus fullonum, and is of singular use in raising the knap upon woollen cloth.
