Noggin (brand)
Noggin is an entertainment brand launched on February 2, 1999 as a joint venture between ViacomCBS' Nickelodeon and Sesame Workshop. The Jim Henson Company also held a stake in Noggin when it was launched. The brand was first advertised as both a linear television channel and an interactive website. The brand has since expanded to include a mobile subscription app, a second website, and four defunct programming blocks in the United States and United Kingdom. It was initially aimed at a teen and pre-teen audience, but it shifted its target demographic to preschool children on April 1, 2002.At launch, Noggin's lineup mainly consisted of reruns from Sesame Workshop's content library. Noggin also created its own Sesame Street spin-off, Play with Me Sesame, as well as syndication packages of Sesame Street. In its first three years, it produced several original shows: the teen reality series A Walk in Your Shoes, the puppetry short series Oobi, the game show Sponk!, and the animated Phred on Your Head Show. After it shifted its demographic, imported series from the Nick Jr. block began to overtake Noggin's lineup, and most of the Sesame Workshop branding that had defined the network's early years was dropped. Despite this, Nickelodeon and Sesame Workshop continued a co-production partnership for Noggin until 2009, when the channel closed. The Noggin brand was dormant from 2009 until February 2015, when Nickelodeon announced that Noggin would be "coming back" as a mobile streaming app, which launched on March 5, 2015. As of 2020, the app is continually updated with new videos and games. The app has spawned two separate versions in Latin America and Brazil, each with their own unique libraries of content.
