Wikipedia

  1. Minkey

Minkey is a modified form of field hockey designed for primary school children. The name is derived from "MINi hocKEY", and originated in Australia more than 20 years ago. It is currently offered in under-7 and under-9 variants throughout Australia, on more-or-less half-sized fields, and with simplified rules. A similar game is popular in Canada where it is generally referred to as "mini hockey." The Canadian version is usually unstructured and played by children with "mini hockey sticks" approximately 20 inches in length inside homes and schools, although some more structured leagues do exist. Mini Hockey or "Knee Hockey" became popular in the United States in the early 2000's. The Company Franklin started selling sets, including two sticks one net and two mini hockey balls. The Sticks measure to 19 inches in length, and the typical goal is 26 inches long and 28 inches high. Travel hockey teams helped spread publicity for the sport by playing while in hotels for travel tournaments. Knee hockey in the U.S is commonly played on your knees but also while standing up. There is no official professional knee hockey league in the United States, but many people broadcast there games over the internet and consider themselves as amateurs.
