These projects that are related to Frida from a cultural point of view, spreading her painting, works and story… are projects I like and feel comfortable participating in.
We see Frida as the person, Frida the artist but also the woman, i met Frida personally for the first time when I went through her archive, and I found a woman who loved perfume, who loved to dress up, who didn't let her disabilities define her but she defined who she was in her own terms.
I didn't know very much about Frida. Of course I'd read some books, but when I saw her belongings they were completely different from what was written about her, i feel like in some way I was communicating directly with Frida herself.
I was pretty nervous when I came face to face with her things but ... little by little it was like I could communicate with her, i saw the sense of sadness in her belongings, there was no one left to wear them because Frida died so long ago. It was the same sadness I saw left behind by the women who died in Hiroshima.
