The Bloods are a primarily African-American street gang founded in Los Angeles, California. The gang is widely known for its rivalry with the Crips. It is identified by the red color worn by its members and by particular gang symbols, including distinctive hand signs. The Bloods comprise various subgroups known as "sets", among which significant differences exist, such as colors, clothing, operations, and political ideas that may be in open conflict with each other. Since the gang's creation, it has branched throughout the United States.

The West Side (W/S) Cedar Block Piru are a small, predominately African-American street gang founded in the western district of Compton, California. The name of this gang derives from a residential street called "Cedar Street" located in the heart of their territory. The Cedar Block Piru have been active since about 1980s. Their territory stretches from approximately south of Rosecrans Avenue and north of West Arbutus Street between the Compton Creek and Elm Street. To the east of their territory are the Tree Top Pirus. Their closest Crip rivals are the Palmer Blocc Compton Crips just south of Palmer Street. Other known rivals include the Park Village Compton Crips as well as the Santana Blocc Compton Crips, Original Front Hood Compton Crips, the Compton Varrio Tortilla Flats, Compton Varrio 70's and Compton Varrio 155. The Cedar Block Pirus are allies of the Fruit Town Pirus, Tree Top Pirus, 145 Neighborhood Pirus, West Side Piru and the Original Block Piru 151.
