Aposteme, Apostumenoun
A hollow swelling, filled with purulent matter; an abscess.
Etymology: ἀπόστημα.
With equal propriety we may affirm, that ulcers of the lungs, or apostemes of the brain, do happen only in the left side. Thomas Browne, Vulgar Errours, b. iii. c. 3.
The opening of apostemes, before the suppuration be perfected, weakeneth the heat, and renders them crude. Richard Wiseman.
