acute leukemia
Acute leukemia is a type of cancer that originates in the bone marrow, which is the soft tissue inside most bones. This cancer primarily affects the white blood cells, causing them to multiply uncontrollably and prohibit normal function. Acute leukemia is characterized by the rapid increase of abnormal immature blood cells, which leads to symptoms such as anemia, fatigue, increased risk of infection, and easy bleeding or bruising. There are different types of acute leukemia, including acute lymphoblastic leukemia and acute myeloid leukemia, and the disease can occur in both children and adults.

The malignant cells show minimal differentiation and are called blasts, either myeloid blasts (myeloblasts) or lymphoid blasts (lymphoblasts).
