Wikipedia
Videotape
Videotape is magnetic tape used for storing video and usually sound in addition. Information stored can be in the form of either an analog or digital signal. Videotape is used in both video tape recorders (VTRs) and, more commonly, videocassette recorders (VCRs) and camcorders. Videotapes have also been used for storing scientific or medical data, such as the data produced by an electrocardiogram. Because video signals have a very high bandwidth, and stationary heads would require extremely high tape speeds, in most cases, a helical-scan video head rotates against the moving tape to record the data in two dimensions. Tape is a linear method of storing information and thus imposes delays to access a portion of the tape that is not already against the heads. The early 2000s saw the introduction and rise to prominence of high-quality random-access video recording media such as hard disks and flash memory. Since then, videotape has been increasingly relegated to archival and similar uses.

Wikidata
Videotape
A videotape is a recording of images and sounds on to magnetic tape as opposed to film stock used in filmmaking or random access digital media. Videotapes are also used for storing scientific or medical data, such as the data produced by an electrocardiogram. In most cases, a helical scan video head rotates against the moving tape to record the data in two dimensions, because video signals have a very high bandwidth, and static heads would require extremely high tape speeds. Videotape is used in both video tape recorders or, more commonly and more recently, videocassette recorder and camcorders. Tape is a linear method of storing information and since nearly all video recordings made nowadays are digital direct to disk recording, videotape is expected to gradually lose importance as non-linear/random-access methods of storing digital video data become more common. Information stored can be in the form of either an analog signal or digital signal.

Examples of Videotape in a Sentence
In light of the scant evidence connecting Penalver to this murder and the consequent importance of identifying the individual depicted on the videotape in sunglasses and hat, we conclude that the improperly admitted evidence and the State's suggestion that the defense tampered with or suborned perjury by an identification witness meet the cumulative error requirements outlined above and require reversal.
It's kind of like saying, you've got a baseball batter who's in a slump and so -- what they've been doing -- they look at the videotape and instead of like doing a better swing, they just start hitting the umpire with the bat. Yeah, doing something different -- but it has to make sense what you're doing, i don't think anybody who's been involved with this will say what we did worked... but that doesn't mean that this is the right approach.
People viewing this videotape will have the brilliance and benefit of hindsight 20/20 vision, this is not a murder case, despite what you heard in the courtroom. It's truly not a murder case, and we feel that we will be very successful in defending this case.
People from around the world watched the videotape of a man – unarmed, unprovoked – being beat to death by officers of the law, you thought that no one would respond. You thought no one would care. Well, tomorrow the Vice President of the United States is coming to his funeral.
Gulfport Police Chief Leonard Papania:
I wish people would look at just how warped our society has become, we videotape pain and suffering, then we share it and we view it over and over. And I don’t doubt this story will be dead in two days and everybody [ will ] move on to something else and you still have a victim of a crime.
