THANS was founded in 1989.THANS organises an annual purple ribbon awareness campaign in memory of the École Polytechnique massacre. THANS conducted interviews with 34 physically abused women who subsequently sought resolution through family law mediation. In 2000, THANS released a report based on these interviews, stating that most of the women would not recommend legal mediation to other abused women. In 2008, THANS supported Bill 81, which they hoped would become the Domestic Violence Elimination Act, but Minister of Justice Cecil Clarke chose not to call the bill for a third reading. In 2009, Darrell Dexter of the New Democratic Party identified THANS in his promise to increase government funding of halfway houses in Nova Scotia. In 2012, THANS partnered with the World YWCA, Family SOS, Silent Witness Nova Scotia, and Leave Out Violence to host the Atlantic Ballet Theatre of Canada's Ghosts of Violence, a ballet about domestic violence, in Halifax.Ann de Ste Croix is THANS' Provincial Coordinator.

Trans
Trans is the twelfth studio album by Canadian musician Neil Young, released in 1982. Recorded partially and released during his Geffen era in the 1980s, Trans baffled many Neil Young fans. Some suggested that the album could be a satirical message that Young was trying to send about the direction music was headed in the future. A Sennheiser Vocoder VSM201 features prominently in six of the nine tracks. While the album was poorly received, some critics point out that the melodies are strong and that the album involves Young addressing new musical movements, as he did previously on Rust Never Sleeps and later with the grunge movement. Originally released as an LP, the album was re-issued in 1998 on CD, although not in the US.

I hear Secretary Clinton is in Ohio tonight talking about how concerned she is about the auto industry -- an industry decimated by the North American Free Trade Agreement and normalized trade with China. She supported those bad deals. I opposed them, now she says she wants to make it tougher for automobiles to be imported to this country under the disastrous Trans-Pacific Partnership. That's the deal she called the 'gold standard' when she was secretary of state.

When I came out to my supervisors, I presumed I was going to be fired or it would be a process of me leaving quietly. But instead what happened instead was, even though it would have been within their rights to fire me, the chain of command -- mostly conservative people who had never met a trans person before, knowingly at least -- they stood by me, that just gives me a faith and optimism that I think people have responded to well in this campaign. People crave that. And it's not faith and optimism that's just words and talking points. It's grounded in real experience.
