Wikipedia
Pyeong
A pyeong (abbreviation py) is a Korean unit of area and floorspace, equal to a square kan or 36 square Korean feet. The ping and tsubo are its equivalent Taiwanese and Japanese units, similarly based on a square bu (ja:步) or ken, equivalent to 36 square Chinese or Japanese feet.
Wikidata
Pyeong
A tsubo is a unit of the size of rooms or buildings in Japan, Korea, and Taiwan equal to 36 shaku² or ⁴⁰⁰⁄₁₂₁ square metres and with the same symbolic word "坪". This unit is derived from Chinese Zhou Dynasty '歩' unit. In Japan, tsubo is almost the area of 2 blocks of the standard Tatami putting together into a square since the Edo Period. In South Korea, a new law enacted as of July 1, 2007 will replace the use of pyeong in official documents with the square metre. A studio apartment will generally be around 10 to 15 pyeong, a house somewhere around 50 or more, and the smallest of rooms, consisting of only a bed and a bit of floor space for students, will be as little as 1.5 pyeong. In Taiwan, since Taiwan was once a colony under Japanese rule before today's Republic of China, ping is still commonly used despite the standard measurement of area has been changed to square metres in 1945.
