Wikipedia

  1. Punching

Punching is a forming process that uses a punch press to force a tool, called a punch, through the workpiece to create a hole via shearing. Punching is applicable to a wide variety of materials that come in sheet form, including sheet metal, paper, vulcanized fibre and some forms of plastic sheet. The punch often passes through the work into a die. A scrap slug from the hole is deposited into the die in the process. Depending on the material being punched this slug may be recycled and reused or discarded. Punching is often the cheapest method for creating holes in sheet materials in medium to high production volumes. When a specially shaped punch is used to create multiple usable parts from a sheet of material the process is known as blanking. In metal forging applications the work is often punched while hot, and this is called hot punching. Slugging is the operation of punching in which the punch is stopped as soon as the metal fracture is complete and metal is not removed but held in hole.

Examples of PUNCHING in a Sentence

  1. Florida Sen. Marco Rubio:

I don't want us to have a president that we constantly have to be explaining to our kids, 'Look, I know that's what the president did, but you shouldn't do that.' I don't want that, donald Trump -- he might have grown up the way he did, with a lot of money and going to boarding school. I can tell you this: Where I grew up, if someone keeps punching people in the face, eventually someone's going to have to stand up and punch them back.

  2. Gadeir Abbas:

There has been nothing like this ever, for the Muslim community to be regularly the punching bag of the president of the United States.

  3. Greg Girard:

Quite often houses were built by building onto the next building, punching out walls to use their staircases, a lot of them didn't have access to air or open space, because they were enclosed in the center of the structure.

  4. Seth Dillon:

The initial attacks that we face from the media and Big Tech came from this angle that we’re spreading misinformation, and we need to be fact checked, and it was really weird how they were treating these jokes so seriously and giving them a truth rating, that didn’t really work out too well for them, they actually faced a lot of backlash for that, they were mocked very heavily, so there seems to be this shift in strategy. We’re now, instead of focusing on the misinformative nature of our satirical claims, they’re focusing more on the fact that we’re punching down without jokes or aiming at the wrong targets.

  5. Christyn Williams:

It was a battle the whole game, we just tried to throw the first punch and keep punching them.
