    Kapan (Armenian: Կապան) is a town in southeast Armenia, serving as the administrative center of the urban community of Kapan as well as the provincial capital of Syunik Province. It is located in the valley of the Voghji River and is on the northern slopes of Mount Khustup. According to the 2011 census, the population of Kapan was 43,190, a slight decline from 45,711 in the 2001 census. However, the current population of the town is around 34,600 as per the 2016 official estimate. Kapan is the most populous town in the Syunik Province as well as the entire region of southern Armenia.

    Kapan, is the capital of the Syunik province at the south-east of Armenia. The city is located 316 km south of the capital Yerevan, on the northern slopes of Mount Khustup, in the valley of Voghdji River. According to the National Statistical Service of the Republic of Armenia, the population of Kapan is 45,488. The city's population was 45,711 at the 2001 census. Kapan is the most populous city in Syunik province and southern Armenia. The city was known as Kafan and Madan during the Persian Qajar rule over Armenia.
