Wikipedia

  1. filed

In law, filing is the delivery of a document to the clerk of a court and the acceptance of the document by the clerk for placement into the official record. If a document is delivered to the clerk and is temporarily placed or deposited with the court (but is not accepted for filing), it is said to have been lodged with or received by the court (but not filed). Courts will not consider motions unless an appropriate memorandum or brief is filed before the appropriate deadline. Usually a filing fee is paid which is part of court costs.

Examples of Filed in a Sentence

  1. Gilberto Valle:

Valle gave Mangan full custody of their daughter while he was ensnared in the cannibalism fantasy case. Following his exoneration, he filed court papers in Nevada -- where Mangan now lives -- seeking visitation with his daughter. But Valle decided to drop the case last month after a judge told him he must pay his ex-wife’s attorney fees, the Daily News reported late Sunday. Valle admitted to spending $50,000 so far on the legal battle, and said he couldn’t afford any more. I've been completely cleared but that doesn't mean my life is back to normal, this is going to stick with me for the rest of my life. He added: I argued it's in the child's best interest to have a father. Kathleen argued, 'He might murder my daughter.' I don't think she really thinks that. The newspaper said Mangan and her lawyer are not responding to requests for comment. We have great concern that Ms. Mangan will be forced into a co-parenting relationship with a man who will continue to traumatize her through his very public persona as the 'Cannibal Cop,' her attorney had previously written in court papers. Valle, who now reportedly works in construction, recentlypublished his first book.

  2. Andrew Ceresney:

As proved at trial, as CEO of a public company, Willie Gault filed false certifications with the SEC and knowingly circumvented the company's internal controls.

With the House planning to wrap up the People's business and the final report from the Modernization Committee set to be filed in the next few weeks, I intend to step down from Congress and begin the next chapter of life in October.

  4. Ecuadorian Foreign Ministry:

The Ecuadorian government notices that these falsehoods are also an attempt to tarnish the dignity of the country, when they issue falsehoods, the asylee and his associates express once more their ingratitude and disrespect towards Ecuador, instead of showing gratitude towards the country that has welcomed him for nearly seven years, incurred significant expenditures to pay for his stay at the embassy, has borne their rudeness and to whom he, paradoxically, has filed a lawsuit against for adopting a cohabitation protocol in order to prevent his bad behavior from taking place again.

  5. Elections Jim Allen:

They’re looking at a preliminary report from January, and just recently, in the last week, they’ve filed a request for an updated report, they’re looking at incomplete data.
