EKG
Electrocardiography is the process of producing an electrocardiogram (ECG or EKG), a recording of the heart's electrical activity. It is an electrogram of the heart which is a graph of voltage versus time of the electrical activity of the heart using electrodes placed on the skin. These electrodes detect the small electrical changes that are a consequence of cardiac muscle depolarization followed by repolarization during each cardiac cycle (heartbeat). Changes in the normal ECG pattern occur in numerous cardiac abnormalities, including cardiac rhythm disturbances (such as atrial fibrillation and ventricular tachycardia), inadequate coronary artery blood flow (such as myocardial ischemia and myocardial infarction), and electrolyte disturbances (such as hypokalemia and hyperkalemia). Traditionally, "ECG" usually means a 12-lead ECG taken while lying down as discussed below. However, other devices can record the electrical activity of the heart such as a Holter monitor but also some models of smartwatch are capable of recording an ECG. ECG signals can be recorded in other contexts with other devices. In a conventional 12-lead ECG, ten electrodes are placed on the patient's limbs and on the surface of the chest. The overall magnitude of the heart's electrical potential is then measured from twelve different angles ("leads") and is recorded over a period of time (usually ten seconds). In this way, the overall magnitude and direction of the heart's electrical depolarization is captured at each moment throughout the cardiac cycle. There are three main components to an ECG: the P wave, which represents depolarization of the atria; the QRS complex, which represents depolarization of the ventricles; and the T wave, which represents repolarization of the ventricles.During each heartbeat, a healthy heart has an orderly progression of depolarization that starts with pacemaker cells in the sinoatrial node, spreads throughout the atrium, and passes through the atrioventricular node down into the bundle of His and into the Purkinje fibers, spreading down and to the left throughout the ventricles. This orderly pattern of depolarization gives rise to the characteristic ECG tracing. To the trained clinician, an ECG conveys a large amount of information about the structure of the heart and the function of its electrical conduction system. Among other things, an ECG can be used to measure the rate and rhythm of heartbeats, the size and position of the heart chambers, the presence of any damage to the heart's muscle cells or conduction system, the effects of heart drugs, and the function of implanted pacemakers.

An EKG, also known as an electrocardiogram, is a medical test that measures the electrical activity of the heart. It can help identify and monitor various heart conditions by displaying the rhythm and status of the heart on a line graph. It is a non-invasive, safe, and commonly used tool in cardiology. EKGs are used to investigate symptoms such as chest pain, shortness of breath, dizziness, or rapid, irregular heartbeats.

Examples of EKG in a Sentence
I was given this medicine by my doctor for several health issues that I was having back in 2006. I was getting sick a lot. I was getting the flu every couple of months. I had irregular EKG results as well as indications of diabetes with a family history of diabetes, (Mildronate) made me healthy, and that's why I continued to take it.
Dr. Suzanne Steinbaum, a cardiologist and director of women’s heart health at the Heart and Vascular Institute at Lenox Hill Hospitalin New York, told Fox News. Symptoms of ARVD can include palpitations, shortness of breath and fainting. NIKI TAYLOR'S TIPS FOR JUGGLING MOTHERHOOD AND A CAREER Niki said Krissy Taylor never showed any direct symptoms but was generally an anxious person, especially before fashion shoots and go-sees. She would always say ‘ my heart’s beating so fast … I don't know what's going on, ’ so we just thought it was normal butterflies or excitement, but this was probably symptoms that something else was going on, Niki said. Diagnosing ARVD can be challenging, Suzanne Steinbaum said. Diagnosing ARVD’s normal for our heart to pound and pump when we get nervous or anxious, but walking around town and feeling your heart pound and pump is not normal, Suzanne Steinbaum explained. Diagnosing ARVD's really hard to tell the difference between anxiety, stress and really a heart condition, if you have symptoms of shortness of breath, if you have palpitations, if you feel dizzy the first place you have to think is your heart. So what I tell everyone is don't diagnose yourself, just go to the doctor, she added. To help more women understand their risk of heart disease, the number one killer of women, Niki partnered with the American Heart Association and their Go Red for Women campaign. We just want people to go get an EKG( electrocardiogram), your doctor will be able to know if you have heart flutters or an irregular heartbeat like Krissy Taylor did, and it could save your life.
Even at the young age, the heart is a muscle...there are 16-year-olds that can have an enlarged heart from muscle, so it looks like an athlete EKG. It has higher voltage. Pediatricians say this is abnormal, but a sports medicine specialist would say that's the typical pattern of a trained athlete, untrained physicians overcall abnormality and that leads to further testing.
We can do an EKG out here, we have a crash cart, we even have X-rays out there.
