Wikidata

  1. Inferno

Inferno is a 1980 Italian supernatural horror film, written and directed by Dario Argento. The film stars Irene Miracle, Leigh McCloskey, Eleonora Giorgi, Daria Nicolodi and Alida Valli. The cinematography was by Romano Albani and Keith Emerson composed the film's thunderous musical score. The story concerns a young man's investigation into the disappearance of his sister, who had been living in a New York City apartment building that also served as a home for a powerful, centuries-old witch. A thematic sequel to Suspiria, the film is the second part of Argento's Three Mothers trilogy. The long-delayed concluding entry, The Mother of Tears, was released in 2007. All three films are partially derived from the concept of "Our Ladies of Sorrow" originally devised by Thomas de Quincey in his book Suspiria de Profundis. Unlike Suspiria, Inferno received a very limited theatrical release and the film was unable to match the box office success of its predecessor. While the initial critical response to the film was mostly negative, its reputation has improved considerably over the years. Kim Newman has called it "perhaps the most underrated horror movie of the 1980s." In 2005, the magazine Total Film named Inferno one of the 50 greatest horror films of all time.

The Nuttall Encyclopedia

  1. Inferno

the hell of Dante, represented as included in nine circles, of which the first six, constituting the uppermost hell, are occupied by those who cannot govern themselves yet have no mind to harm any one else, of which the seventh, constituting the mid-hell, is occupied by those who cannot govern their thoughts, and of which the eighth and ninth, constituting the nether hell, are occupied by those who have wilfully done harm to other people, those in the eighth in hot blood and those in the ninth or lowest in cold blood, the former in passion and the latter without passion, far down below the freezing-point. See Ruskin's "Fors Clavigera," more fully, and by way of authority for this.

Examples of infernó in a Sentence

  1. Nicholas Alahverdian:

I had other problems — I dressed nicely. I used words that were not monosyllabic. I aspired to go to Harvard University or Yale. The DCYF receptionist and the security guard would nod and smile at the narrative for my future. The social workers would counsel me to dress with baggy jeans and speak like a child so as to not elicit beatings by the other kids.” Excerpt From: Nicholas Alahverdian. “Ignoble Inferno/ The Nicholas Alahverdian Lawsuit.” iBooks.

  2. Jody Thompson:

The candle exploded and emitted huge flames with bits flying everywhere, i've never seen anything like it. The whole thing was ablaze, and it was too hot to touch. There was an inferno in the room.

  3. Karim Hijazi:

The fact that were seeing something as old as Ramnit show up in WHOs network is a really bad sign. This trojans activity that weve been tracking as it beacons back to the attackers network is just the smoke of what is probably a much bigger fire going on inside their network, it could be a raging inferno on the inside. If something as ancient as Ramnit can get through their defenses, they have much bigger problems. It means newer malware probably doesnt have much trouble slipping in too.

  4. Michael Doherty:

More than 40 tourists and crew members plunged into the waters of Ha Long Bay on Friday to escape the growing inferno on the docked wooden Aphrodite Cruise ship, the New Zealand Herald reported. The crew did their best but they were all very young and obviously overwhelmed by the circumstances, the passengers were guided to the sun deck of the ship and thereafter given no direction or support. It definitely felt as if it was just chaos.

  5. Firefighter Isamu Kase:

It was a hellish frenzy, absolutely horrible. People were just jumping into the canals to escape the inferno.
